Every year around Mid-August to Early-September I start searching for cute sweaters that I can layer for fall. I do love a basic sweater to wear to work but on the weekends I really crave a statement sweater that I can make multiple looks from. Cute sweaters can be hard to come by in a decent price range and fabric. I scour numerous websites including H&M, Zara, Red Dress Boutique, Mango, ShopBop, and Nordstrom. Just remember, if the sweater is itchy in the store it will still continue to be itchy when you wear it for several hours so choose your fabrics wisely! Also buying too chunky of sweaters can be difficult to layer because they appear bulky and you get hot easily. If you overheat like me, picking a statement cardigan is a good balance.
The sweater above can be styled with black leather joggers and sneakers for a weekend with friends or with dress pants with a turtleneck for a fun work look.
Mango typically has great basic pieces but sometimes they surprise me with a few stand out pieces including these cute fall sweaters! Their fabrics are typically high quality, especially the tweeds. I could easily see myself pairing the red or green tweed cardigan with straight leg denim, a thin knit sweater, and a mule/clog on a trip to the apple orchard this fall.

Zara is the BEST for fast or trendy fashion. I typically pay less than $50 for the cute statement sweaters from Zara. Twice a week I go to the New Arrivals page and scroll through their website. On the website you will notice some items say “coming soon.” You can click the size you want and email yourself an alert when the item is in stock. It doesn’t mean the item is sold out though as I typically get an alert in 1-2 days.
