Hoboken: My Favorite Places

I have lived in the Hoboken/Jersey City area since May 2018, and I have not done one dedicated post of my favorite places! Highlighted below are my favorite places in Hoboken so I hope you also get to enjoy these gems! I will say I find out most information from Hoboken Girl for what to do on the weekend as well as new store openings. Whenever I live in a certain area, I develop my “comfort spots” that I consistently go to.

Restaurant: Karma Kafe

If you just need a quite bite or to-go order Karma Kafe is a great Indian restaurant with a huge menu. Their food is primarily northern Indian with gigantic portions. We typically order the paneer kulcha (fluffy as a pillow), tandoori bengal salmon, shrimp biryani, crispy desi fish, paneer makhani, and dal makhani. The food is very consistent and flavorful.

Bakery and Coffee Shop: Yuki’s Bakery

Yuki, the owner, is influenced by the diverse Israeli cuisine, that includes flavors from Eastern Europe to Morocco, Northern Africa & Yemen, and last, but not least, the native Arab and Mediterranean flavors. Yuki’s Bakery & Coffee specials include Yuki’s famous Babka (available in different flavors), Challah bread, Borek, Rugelach, Vegan Oat and Date cookies, Granola and much more. The items in the store are super fresh and tasty! I personally buy the oat and date cookies and pita bread every week from the store. I am always extremely tempted by all the pastries.

Artisanal Gelato: Kikilu

This Italian owned gelato, pastry, and coffee shop is insanely high quality and decadent. I would definitely take people here from out of town, it is that good. They have simple traditional gelato flavors with premium ingredients in addition to seasonal twists. Make sure to ask for the whipped cream or panna on top. They also import extra virgin olive oil in small batches that you can take home in their refillable containers. In addition, they have amazing coffee selections, pastries including GF options, and fresh cannoli.

Restaurant: Antique Bar & Bakery

Hoboken

This restaurant was voted #1 in Hoboken in 2022 for a reason! Please make a reservation before you go, it is difficult to walk in! You can see the menu and make reservations, here. Antique Bar & Bakery is a restaurant in a century-old Hoboken institution boasting a 30-ton coal oven built of porcelain brick. They do change their menu slightly throughout the year, but you have to get the bread pudding if you go!

Gym: Jane Do

Hoboken

I recently joined Jane Do a couple of months ago to give it a try. I signed up for the 16 classes a month as they offer a very fun variety including step aerobics, trampoline, dance, HITT, and sculpt. During the week, I typically do 1 dance class, 1 step aerobics, and 2 sculpt classes per week. This gym is all women’s so I feel very comfortable in the class. The classes are 50 minutes long and they offer early morning and evening classes.

Highlights

Obviously there are numerous other places that I love in Hoboken! I will list a couple more places below but please let me know what your favorites are!

Notable mentions:

  • Fiore Deli of Hoboken: They are only open util 6 PM during the week and are cash only! They don’t have a menu online but on Friday they have a tuna sandwich and Saturday a beef sandwich. They also make homemade mozzarella that is to die for.
  • Quality Pizza: Located on Washington Street, I love their plain cheese pizza.
  • Quality Queen: This is a faster food option. They have a chef plate where you choose the protein, base, and two sides. Always get the horseradish sauce on the side to put on top. Their carrots, sweet potatoes, and macaroni an cheese are top notch.
  • Hoboken Waterfront: I know this isn’t really a “business” like the others above but I walk and run here almost every day. The views of New York City are unmatched. There are also numerous photo opportunities in the area. Also they have Movies in the Park dotted along the piers.
  • Moonlight Spa: This is truly a hidden treasure for a massage. This place is absolutely no frills so it is not a fancy spa experience. I always go to get the one hour foot massage after working out all week. I post this place as well in my self care blog post.
  • Chip City: I know this has become more of a “chain” but their cookies are always baked fresh with rotating flavors.

Want to go:

  • The Hive: I really want to try the cinnamon rolls and coffee options.
  • Dear Maud
  • Caffe Buon Gusto: I have been to two NYC location and I love the penne vodka with the fresh mozzarella on top. I haven’t been to the Hoboken location but I am sure it is excellent.
