I had my first fondue night at home on Valentine’s Day! Recently, my family and I went to Taureau in New York City so I attempted to replicate their cheese and chocolate options. This creative activity is such a great date night idea or group activity with friends. I bought my fondue set a Target on sale for $30 and I linked a bunch of great sets below! Fondue at home is such an affordable meal idea and always requires very little set up prior to the event.
Cheese Fondue Recipe, serves 4
- 3/4 lb fontina cheese, shredded
- 3/4 lb cups Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp black pepper
- White truffle oil, to your taste
- Heat the wine in a large saucepan over low heat.
- Add the cheese mixture stirring in figure of eight motions with a wooden spoon.
- Mix the cornstarch with a small amount of water until it is fully dissolved. Add this to the cheese mixture to thicken it.
- Add in the white truffle oil and black pepper to your taste. I added about 1 tbsp of white truffle oil.
- Pour this mixture into your fondue set and serve immediately.
What to serve with cheese fondue: boiled small potatoes, toasted bread (baguette, pretzel bites, focaccia), broccoli, carrots, apples, fries
Chocolate Fondue Recipe, serves 4
- 16 oz bag of milk chocolate
- 3 Lindt dark chocolate bars
- Whole milk to thin the chocolate, approximately 1 cup
- 1 tsp Vanilla flavoring
- Place the chocolate in a saucepan over low heat to make sure it doesn’t burn. Stir frequently to make sure the chocolate doesn’t burn on the bottom.
- Stir in milk to thin the chocolate mixture. Keep stirring until the milk is combined.
- Pour mixture into fondue pot.
What to serve with chocolate fondue: marshmallows, pretzels, oreos, mini biscotti, graham crackers, rice krispy treats, cubes of pound cake, fresh strawberries, bananas
